Hiho, I've got a quite interesting problem with every kernel beyond
2.3.10...

Okay, this is normal as under 2.3.10...

USER PID %CPU %MEM VSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND
root 1 0.0 0.1 1032 108 ? S Jul17 0:06 init
root 2 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? SW Jul17 0:00 [kflushd]
root 3 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? SW Jul17 0:00 [kswapd]
root 4 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? SW Jul17 0:00 [khubd]
root 12 0.0 0.0 996 44 ? S Jul17 0:04 /sbin/update
root 32 0.0 1.2 2364 788 ? S Jul17 0:00 /sbin/isdnlog /de
root 39 0.0 0.2 1088 168 ? S Jul17 0:00 /usr/sbin/klogd
root 41 0.0 0.3 1480 204 ? S Jul17 0:00 /usr/local/sbin/i
root 43 0.0 0.3 1380 232 ? S Jul17 0:01 /usr/sbin/syslogd
root 47 0.0 1.2 2560 796 tty1 S Jul17 0:00 -bash
root 50 0.0 1.4 2412 932 tty4 S Jul17 0:00 -bash
root 30902 0.0 2.2 2396 1408 tty3 S 18:05 0:00 -bash
root 30927 0.0 2.2 2408 1432 tty2 S 18:05 0:00 -bash
root 4432 7.0 1.3 2612 816 tty3 R 21:17 0:00 ps aux

And this would it be under 2.3.11-pre-something...

USER PID %CPU %MEM VSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND
root 1 0.0 0.1 1032 108 ? S Jul17 0:06 init
root 2 0.0 2.2 2396 1408 tty3 S 18:05 0:00 -bash
root 3 0.0 2.2 2408 1432 tty2 S 18:05 0:00 -bash
root 4 7.0 1.3 2612 816 tty3 R 21:17 0:00 ps aux
root 12 0.0 0.0 996 44 ? S Jul17 0:04 /sbin/update
root 32 0.0 1.2 2364 788 ? S Jul17 0:00 /sbin/isdnlog /de
root 39 0.0 0.2 1088 168 ? S Jul17 0:00 /usr/sbin/klogd
root 41 0.0 0.3 1480 204 ? S Jul17 0:00 /usr/local/sbin/i
root 43 0.0 0.3 1380 232 ? S Jul17 0:01 /usr/sbin/syslogd
root 47 0.0 1.2 2560 796 tty1 S Jul17 0:00 -bash
root 50 0.0 1.4 2412 932 tty4 S Jul17 0:00 -bash
root 30902 0.0 2.2 2396 1408 tty3 S 18:05 0:00 -bash
root 30927 0.0 2.2 2408 1432 tty2 S 18:05 0:00 -bash
root 4432 7.0 1.3 2612 816 tty3 R 21:17 0:00 ps aux

Pay attention to PID 2,3 and 4... The are exactly the processes which
exist a few lines below. The machine starts to get very sluggish and
to swap continuosly...

Any idea?

Servus,
Daniel
