I think "itching" would be a tad of an overstatement.
I can think of an infinity of more worthwhile projects.
Fun it may be, but a big job and perhaps leading to legal liabilities.
(Writing a non-approved driver and distributing it freely, plus patent
issues on the modem protocols).
