100% is plain jane ISA IDE controller or one that does it in compatablity
mode.

Correct...........you have "BOTH" interfaces enable in the BIOS.

Yes it is probed correctly......... but there is nothing in the PCI config
space that would lead one to believe that reality meets the ground.

The "old" kernels never looked for it to report it.
Would you like a patch to prove that 2.0.X and 2.2.X are reporting the
same, or would you get less sleep.

You have neither. And the details to prove it to you would put us both to
sleep.................performace loss.............
Run a test and prove it t before you issue the challenge.
