Hmm. I recall all kinds of flaws in early versions of patch.
Somewhere there is a patch-2.1b that I created a few years ago.
It was (is) fine, as far as I know.
The GNU patch 2.2 is to be avoided, but I do not recall
any bad experiences with patch 2.5.
