ICMP in 2.2.9 (was 3c575)

The following is from a box running 2.2.9ac4, over a 3c905. The
distributions is Debian slink. The ping problem is RedHat related. Not
kernel.

> sudo ping -s 1475 raven

1483 bytes from 128.197.128.31: icmp_seq=5 ttl=252 time=5.6 ms
