Hi Karl.

You don't even need that, as Linux doesn't care what the BIOS
supports. All that matters is that the contents of /boot are all
located within the first 1023 cylinders, and I normally ensure this by
making /boot a separate partition corresponding to the first ~16M of
the primary hard drive, as follows:

Q> # fdisk -l /dev/hda
Q> Disk /dev/hda: 255 heads, 63 sectors, 623 cylinders
Q> Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 bytes
Q>
Q> Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
Q> /dev/hda1 * 1 2 16033 83 Linux native
Q> /dev/hda2 3 18 128520 82 Linux swap
Q> /dev/hda3 19 218 1606500 83 Linux native
Q> /dev/hda4 219 623 3253162 5 Extended
Q> /dev/hda5 219 379 1293200 83 Linux native
Q> /dev/hda6 380 623 1959898 83 Linux native
Q> # cat /etc/fstab
Q> /dev/hda3 / ext2 defaults 1 1
Q> /dev/hda1 /boot ext2 defaults 1 1
Q> /dev/hda5 /home ext2 defaults 1 1
Q> /dev/hda6 /home/ftp/pub ext2 defaults 1 1
Q>
Q> /dev/hda2 swap swap defaults
Q>
Q> /proc /proc proc defaults
Q>
Q> /dev/cdrom /home/ftp/cdrom iso9660 defaults,noauto,user
Q> /dev/fd0 /fd0 auto defaults,noauto,user
Q>
Q> /dev/sda4 /zip auto defaults,noauto,user
Q> /dev/sda1 /zip auto defaults,noauto,user
Q> /dev/sda2 /zip auto defaults,noauto,user
Q> /dev/sda3 /zip auto defaults,noauto,user
Q> #

Note that the reason for splitting /dev/hda5 and /dev/hda6 into two
partitions was to avoid problems connected with the 2G limit, and I
chose to use two partitions smaller than that limit rather than one
partition larger than it.

Best wishes from Riley.
