OK, I'll take a look tonight.

Note that -Ox, x > 2 is a loose, generally speaking: -O3 and up do
automatic inlining, the kernel developers have spent much time in carefully
determining where inlining is beneficial and where it is harmful.

I'd upgrade to binutils-2.9.1.0.24, just for luck ;-)
