More CDROM errors from kernel 2.0.36

Some new error messages from my kernel, using the Kenwood TrueX
40 speed. I keep getting these errors, and many others like
them. I wish someone would tell me what causes them, so I know
if it is hardware, or driver issues.

ide-scsi, with *NO* ATAPI support:

1 root@red:/usr/src/redhat# CDROM (ioctl) reports ILLEGAL
REQUEST.
(CDROMVOLREAD) Hosed while obtaining audio mode page
CDROM (ioctl) reports ILLEGAL REQUEST.
(CDROMVOLREAD) Hosed while obtaining audio mode page
scsi0 channel 0 : resetting for second half of retries.
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0.
ide-scsi: CoD != 0 in idescsi_pc_intr
hdd: ATAPI reset complete
ide-scsi: scather gather table too small, discarding data
ide-scsi: scather gather table too small, discarding data
