A bottom half?
#include <asm/softirq.h>
init_bh(YOUR_BH, your_bh_handler);
...
mark_bh(YOUR_BH);
then it'll be executed next time a system call or a interrupt returns.
Bottom halves are atomic to each other, which eases locking, but makes
scalability more difficult.
