I'm using Debian 2.0 (linux 2.0.34), and am trying to compile a 2.0.35
kernel (gcc 2.7.2.3 and gnu make 3.76.1). I'm following the normal
steps:
homega:/usr/src/linux# make config
make dep
make clean
make zImage (or bzImage)
but I usually get errors about header files and exits:

Just yesterday, I upgraded gcc, cpp,... and finally got to compile a
kernel (with wrong options due to tireness). Then, I tried to compile
it yet again, but got those errors, so I removed everything and
installed the kernel sources tarball again... went once more through the
same procedure... failed!
I understand a kernel sources tarball may get corrupted during download
due to line noise (and I've downloaded some in .gz or .bz2), but if I
once succeeded to compile one... why does it fail a second time? could
it get corrupted during the dearchiving/uncompressing process? (I do it
through `tar zxvf foo.tar.gz' or `tar Ixvf foo.tar.bz2' commands).
Could it also get corrupted an already installed kernel source directory
after a failed/successful attempt to compile, or after renaming it? and,
could the tarball get corrupted once in my system? or may be my problem
is not related to any of these questions?

P.P.S. `make kpkg' (debian) is not a solution since I *want* to do it
the normal way.
