egcs 1.1.2 + glibc 2.1 + -march=pentiumpro and - -fno-strength-reduce
is fine here

Now, some people may get dejavu out of this question. When I first
asked it I got confused between -fomit-frame-pointer and -fno-strength-reduce
:) Anyways, is -fno-strength-reduce there to avoid a certain bug I heard that
gcc has with -O2 optimisation or is there a deepr reason?
