I don't have access to a 2.2 tree at the moment, so I can't test it.
I did, however, notice that doing 'touch /usr/src/linux/Makefile' results in a
total rebuild, because version.h depends on the Makefile. Can the VESRION/
PATHLEVEL/SUBLEVEL/EXTRAVERSION be split out like config.h was?
