2048 bytes/sector in pre2-2.2.2

I suppose it's some kind of a bug fix that pre2-2.2.2 can't mount 2048
bytes/sector medias created with earlier kernels? (I'm using a 640MB MO disc
with one ext2 partition since 2.1.105.)
