hi,
i have:
s.u.s.e Linux 5.2
kernel 2.0.33
gcc - 2.7.2.1
/lib/ld.so: version 1.9.6
GNU ld 2.8.1

i try to compile 2.0.36 (but i receive the same error messages when i try
to compile 2.0.34 or 2.0.35)

in /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/Makefile i have OBJDUMP_FLAGS=-k -q
and when i try to make zImage when it enters
/usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/compressed/ it says that objdump doesn't have
such flags, and it really doesn't have. in this case i try to compile
kernel as ELF.
when i don't compile it as ELF i receive such error messages:
./xtract /usr/src/linux/vmlinux | gzip -9 | ./piggyback > piggy.o
Non -GCC header of 'system'
Compressed size 20
....................

ld -qmagic -Ttext 0xfffe0 -o vmlinux head.o misc.o piggy.o
ld: warning: cannot find entry symbol _start; defaulting to 000fffe0

misc.o(.......): undefined reference to 'input_data'
misc.o(.......): undefined reference to 'input_len'
misc.o(.......): undefined reference to 'input_data'
make [2]: *** [vmlinux] Error 1

p.s. sorry if my message doesn't have anything common with the purpose of
this list. i'm very new to it!
