Linux 2.2.0pre5ac1 reports an invalid geometry to applications, 2.2.0pre4
was fine. It still boots ok, but lilo and fdisk fail. /dev/sd[ab] are IBM
DCAS-34330 4GB on an adaptec aic7xxx controller.

cat /proc/scsi/aic7xxx/0:
Extended Translation: Disabled

fdisk output (2.2.0pre5ac1):

Disk /dev/sda: 64 heads, 32 sectors, 4134 cylinders

fdisk output (2.2.0pre4):

Disk /dev/sda: 255 heads, 63 sectors, 527 cylinders

You do not mention the status of Extended Translation for
2.2.0pre4, but I suppose it was Enabled, and this change
in translation setting caused the change in geometry.

Now why was the translation setting changed?
At first sight I do not see any part of the pre5* patch
fiddle with the aic7xxx AHC_EXTEND_TRANS_A setting.
You didnt do this yourself in the card setup?
Or you forgot to add a boot option aic7xxx=extended ?
