slackware 3.6 claims to be 2.1/2.2 ready and includes binutils 2.8.1.0.23
(I don't know what ver of pppd it includes as I didn't install is being on
a cable modem). It also includes libc5 (default) and glibc6, both gcc2.7
and egcs (defaults to gcc for c progs and egcs for c++ progs to avoid
kernel compile problems). I have been running it with both late 2.0
kernels and late 2.1 kernels on several machines with no problems
