As far as I know the FSF was foundated 1986. However I can't
tell how much of developement there was before on the GCC.

And RMS never even tought about messing up config.guess to call them
linux-gnu
and he never publically requested to call them GNU/FreeBSD, which proves
the
fact that he is only trying to jump upon the most prominent of the users
of software released using the GPL which doesn't equall it to software
developed by the FSF.
