ok, I went home, downloaded 2.2.2-pre4, applied your patch, and this is

I have no idea what is wrong with this drive; it is spare at the moment,
so I can box it up and ship it to whomever wants to bang on it. (I
bought a Plextor 32x SCSI, since I also have a Mitsumi 2x CD-writer)
