Use an older or newer gcc. gcc 2.7.x gets it right, CVS tree egcs seems to
as well

Yep. That one has come and gone with various other touches to the depca.c
driver - its tripping some gcc/egcs problems it seems. Last time another
unrelated (apparently) small depca change made it go away again.
