Hayes (bless their chapter 11 soul!) decided that this `pause' could
be patented -- so plenty of US modems apparently don't support this.

However, most cheapo taiwanese modems do support this. God bless the
US Patent Office.

(btw - I've actually tested modems in bulk, probably 40% of modems
found in NZ don't need the little pause after the escape sequence,
so preload an ICMP echo request packet with '+++' and watch 'em
drop. Also discussed on bugtraq sometime ago).
