I upgraded to 2.0.36. I've since seen my ethernet drop dead at least once,
and possibly twice (I was at work, and the machine in question is at home,
and became unreachable today, but was back when I checked an hour later. I
can rule out ISP problems 'cause I could reach other customers of my ISP
who are using the same DSL equipment as I at the ISP's end).

Doing a "/etc/rc.d/init.d/network stop", unloading the ne driver, reloading
the ne driver, and doing a "network start" does not clear things up.

I wasn't doing anything with perl these last two times, so that factor is
eliminated. The three times its died that I have been present, there has
been ftp and smtp activity, though.

Anyway, I've now replaced the NE2000 clone with a 3C509B based card. If the
problem goes away, I'm going to write it off as my ancient NE2000 is starting
to die. If I see it with the 3C509B, then there is a bug somewhere in the
Linux networking code, and I'll report back and ask for suggestions on
tracking that down.
