Try slhc.o. I had the same problem with ppp-compress-21 and
ppp-compress-24. I found their aliases from another newsgroup (sorry --
I can't remember where).

This is what I put in my /etc/conf.modules. The only other module left
in /lib/modules/2.1.127/net/ was slhc.o so......

alias ppp-compress-21 bsd_comp
alias ppp-compress-24 ppp_deflate
alias ppp-compress-26 slhc
