LILO+APM

I tried enabling APM on my system (a desk machine, so priority 0, just
for fun). Around when I would normally see the LILO prompt, my sytem
released three musical tones through the internal speaker and promptly
turned itself off. The Dell technician gave me a BS response. Could
this be a LILO interaction? Is there a version of LILO that will work
for me? Where can I get the latest version? I am reluctant to go the
loadlin way.....
