unable to mount root on 2.1.12[78]

After upgrading from 2.1.124 (with aic 5.1.0pre15) to 2.1.12[78],
my root fs on /dev/sda5 can't be mounted any longer.

Message from fs/super.c(mount_root): "VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:05"

Configuration: S.u.S.E. 5.3, ASUS P2B-DS, 2 * PII/350, onboard AIC 7890,
2 * 2940UW, 1 2940W; all disks attached to the PCI AICs/
root disk attached to the first 2940UW

Going back to 2.1.124 --> root mounts.

Two main differences compared to 2.1.124 seem to be:
aic7xxx 5.1.[34] and the scsi 128 disk support.

Anybody out there with the same trouble / any hints?

Regards,
Heinz
