Problem with SLIP in 2.1.126

I am having a problem with SLIP. I first turned it on
under 2.1.123, and it seemed to work OK. Then I updated
to 2.1.126. At this point I noticed frequent delays, and
eventual line drops. I just booted back to 2.1.123.
Behavior is better, but far from perfect. I have tried
simple things like checking netstat outputs (nothing
obviously wrong). The evidence sugests that something
within SLIP is hanging. The ping output below is pinging
the SLIP machine (qss). It is a 4xPPRO machine (AP450GX) with
1GB RAM. It is lightly loaded right now. In terms of
ping response, there are 2 states: normal, and about
40 times normal delay.

Is this a known problem??
