this is already implemented, here are two striped mirrored partitions:

hell:~> cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [linear] [raid0] [raid1] [raid5]
read_ahead 128 sectors
md0 : active raid1 sdc6[1] sdc7[0] [2/2] [UU] resync=89% finish=0.0min
md1 : active raid1 sdc9[1] sdc8[0] [2/2] [UU] resync=30% finish=0.9min
md2 : active raid0 md1[1] md0[0] 32k chunks
md3 : inactive
