i have the same setup as frank, except for no on-board scsi and i'm seeing the
same problem. i wonder if the compiler would have anything to do with this?
i'm using egcs 1.1b and haven't had the time yet to check if using gcc 2.7.2.3
(or whatever the current flavor is) makes any difference.

what about you guys? are you also using egcs 1.1b? would the compiler make a
difference? i've heard so many discussions about how egcs "breaks" the kernel
(i'm not trying to start any religious debates), i start to wonder if it's the
culprit any time something strange like this happens.
