Can you send me the output of dumpe2fs right before and right after an
e2fsck? There's clearly something screwy going on here. (And you might
as well, not cc linux-kernel, since it's not clear to me it's a kernel
problem.)

I'll take a look at it and see if I can figure out what's going on.
