Hadn't gotten to this point in the thread when I posted my last note;
I guess I won't have to bother Joel McCormack about data. Thanks for
validating yet again that large pages actually have a use...

Note that for on screen, your graphics accelarator may eliminate the need
for this for many operations (as you see, for a frame buffer, the numbers
are very significant); for all off screen operations, such improvements
will always be true for everyone. I don't know of any graphics chip
currently available that can go into VM and fondle bytes for you.
(The Stardent machine of 10 years ago could, but it didn't seem
worth the cost; look where it (and other really bizzare things) got them.
