Odd ifconfig error : unknown interface in 2.1.125

Once in a while, while doing an ifconfig to see collisions and what not I
get an error message ": unknown interface". It goes away after I run
ifconfig and get it however for several days.

This is net-tools 1.45 w/ ifconfig 1.33. Gated runs on this machine as well
as several virtual subinterfaces (none which show up in ifconfig since they
changed it unfortunately).
