Will it be able to do that if it gets a "normal" patch, without any
special information?

Unrelated question -- you're using SCCS as a repository. I'd like to see
something xdelta-ish instead. The reason is that sccs as well as rcs file
formats suffer from the problem that changes which are checked in to
parallel trees (say I'm maintaining my own branch of the kernel and I'm
frequently merging updates from 2.1) are in the repository multiple times.
