Are you sure it locks hard ? I thought my new Compaq (at-work system)
was doing this, but it turned out that the problem was with the keyboard
initialization code - 2 out of 3 times, the keyboard init code fails
and takes a while to time out, leaving the keyboard disabled.
Adding the "kbd-reset" boot parameter fixed it for me. (Check the
exact parameter name - this is from memory).
