AIC7XXX revisited: Micropolis Tagged Command Queueing

Hello,

I want to bring back up an old Adaptec issue again:

I own a Micropolis Tomahawk 4345WS (4.5 G UWSCSI w/ 512 kB cache). When
used with an Adaptec 2842VL (AIC-7770 based Fast SCSI <-> VESA Local
Bus adaptor), it had severe difficulties with tagged command queueing
(TCQ for short) with AIC7xxx 5.0.19, i. e. activating TCQ resulted in
endless timeout/abort/reset loops. The problem persisted until up to
5.1.0pre-whatever-fixed-2842-issues, after that test version, be it
pre6? my disk and later my MB died and were replaced.

Now that a Tekram DC-390U (SYM53C875 based Ultra SCSI <-> PCI adaptor)
has been installed, activating tagged command queueing in ncr53c8xx
with a depth of 12 even running a badblocks on each half of the drive
at the same time does not show any timeouts or inconsistencies or
anything.

Since I doubt that Micropolis did change the firmware without changing
the revision signature, I am pondering about the reason why virtually
the same disk works with a SYM53C875 while it does not with an
AIC-7770. May I thus conclude there are still bugs in the aic7xxx
driver or did I miss any workaround/blacklisting in the NCR53c8xx
driver?

I cannot currently test myself with my Adaptec 2842VL due to lack of a
VLB main board.

Host: scsi1 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: MICROP Model: 4345WS Rev: x43h
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02

Regards,
