How come PPP works with a plain ftp.kernel.org kernel and plain
ppp-2.3.5 but not with Slackware/Redhat? Did they patch things?

NB: I did NOT "make kernel" during PPP installation for my
2.0.35/2.1.122 (the latter is yet untested)
