I think what could solve the issue onvce and for all is that we Force the
spec and ANY source derived from and for it be LGPL or GPL,

1). We can do this by having a frank discussion with the key players of
UDI on the licensing issues involved. Basically if they refuse to use
some type of Free license, i would just as soon ignore it and not develop
for it at all.

2). Vote with our pocket books, by refusing to purchase hardware or
software from companies refusing to honour the above.

3). E-mail and other forms of contact to try to persuade the people
involved ie.. give them numbers and facts that suits only understand.
Companies can still enjoy a profit and alleviate there concerns about
other people taking credit for there intellectual work.,

LGPL and GPL do protect the original author's right to
claim ownership of a work at the same time make it open.

In summary we need to convince the people involved that there intellectual
property rights are protected but still allow open distribution and peer
review, that could get them to Free The spec and force it to be free.
