The PPro 180 only has a 256k L2 cache on-chip, and the PPro 166/200
usually are available with 512k L2 cache on-chip.

That will make quite a difference. I suggest the original poster tries a
166 or a 200 w/ 512k on-chip he will see a larger difference.
