This is highly possible. Late last night my wife went on the web and had
the same stuff happening under kernel 2.0.34. The difference would seem
that it always happens with kernel 2.1.120 but only after a while on
kernel 2.0.34, the computer had been on for several hours when my wife
went on the net.
Perhaps it is a problem with ppp-2.3.5-1

If the script is creating the problem then how to go around this?
It must not get a response to think that it is not connected, this would
point to the ppp acting up. I don't recall ever seeing this with the
previous version of ppp which I had to replace to be able to run the
newer kernel. If that turns out to be the problem, why not go back to
something that works instead of forcing a ppp program that is
questionable?

Thanks for your inputs.
