Linux/alpha 2.1.118 hangs

2.1.118 still hangs my alpha PC164. It boots and runs for a little while,
but eventually, it locks up tight. Seems like a deadlock of some sort.

It happens when I'm manipulating devices (other then video or keyboard).
For example, the last time it hung I was shuffling the tray of my IDE
cdrom drive.

Is anyone looking into this? Am I the only one having the problem? Is there
anything I can do to help? (I have a 150MHZ scope, a 100MHZ logic analyzer,
a low end pentium on the side, but not a lot of time, nor the system board
schematics.)
