Having tried ac1 it seems to be yet an improvement!

2.1.117 SMP ac1: success 2 out of 2 runs

_but_ when starting a:

cp -a nsmail nsmail.ref

to be able to run 'diff -r -d' versus a reference to establish that no
files are
corrupted lightning strikes with a silent lockup and a black console.
(The nsmail directory is 200 Mb with several folders with 5000+
messages)

During the netscape run, the 'RPC terminated by signal' kmsg is
triggered
hundreds of times (the kill is by the netscape process).

After the reboot it is possible to complete the 'cp -a' with no
problems.
