What I have noticed is that the IDE driver for the 2.1.x series is
associated with fdisk's and lilo's failure to obtain the hard drive's
real geometry. My hard drive has something like 8390 cylinders, but fdisk
is all confused about an apparent disagreement between 8390/16 logical
cylinders and 8390/8 physical cylinders unless I boot with a 2.0.x kernel.
I believe that lilo also fails with 2.1.x for a similar reason.
