Booting off a floppy and re-running lilo and as with the previous report all is
well again.
That has to be a 2.1.116 (or earlier) bug.
2.1.117 also seems "snappier" than previous kernels, xterms just appear on the
screen when I open new ones, almost no noticeable delay. I can't say for sure
it's faster than 2.1.116 but there are visible differences in the order of
windows appearing when I start X for example.
