Ugly as shit... and I'm not sure it will work on pre P6 cores
properly.

Anyhow, the 32-bit linux word isn't just Intel, we have ARM, 68k,
PPC, Sparc32, and the beginnings of MIPS.

Any `hack' to make stuff work for >32-bits should be as arch.
independent as possible.
