vger is acting wierd

With all the posting and replying I've been doing over the last
several days, I've been noticing some oddities:

* "Bursty" list activity. Now I realize the people post to the list in
bursts, but when I look at the contents of the bursts they don't seem to
be correlated. Sometimes when I reply, the reply shows up in my inbox
within minutes, sometimes it takes hours, and I've been waiting almost a
day now on a couple.

* Out-of-order posts and replies. I've been seeing third and fourth level
replies before the originals showed up! The time difference has been up
to four hours.

I noticed the problem a lot more when I started cutting every
address but linux-kernel out of the cc: lists, so it was probably going on
before but I never noticed because I would reply directly, they'd reply
directly back, and when the posts eventually showed up on the list I'd
just delete them without think about when they showed up.

I don't see any correlation with list activity, either. Things'll
work smoothly when everyone is posting lots of stuff, and then start
acting wierd when posting is light. Other times everything will be OK for
a day, and over the last 24 hours it has been off and on. Like I said, it
has been almost 24 hours and I'm still waiting on a couple of posts. I
know they went out because I got a reply from the sender and linux-kernel
was still on the cc:list, but obviously they haven't gone out to anyone on
the list because people are still replying to the original post I replied
to in a way that strongly suggests they never saw my reply.
