It does if you delete all your old char-major-4 /dev/pty* /dev/tty*
and replace them with the "new" char-major-2 and char-major-3
pairs (see linux/Documentation/devices.txt).

It seems someone has decided we've had the "new" ptys long
enough and the old ones can go. Unfortunately, in all the time
we've been waiting to get rid of them, no one ever got round
to updating MAKEDEV and announcing it far and wide...
