Well finally others are having the same kind of stalls that I have
been having since about linux-2.1.70-80. These 20-30 second stalls
make editing over a PPP link pretty difficult.

I think the stalls occur when a link error causes a single ACK to
be lost. The recovery takes a long time, i.e., the length of
time for a window-probe to be sent. Maybe this observation will
point to something.

My work-around, is to run my 56k link at 38k, disable VJ, and
re-dial if it gets too bad.
