Thanks but it wasn't it. All there is in that file is the actual
address and IRQ of my CDROM and info about the sound card which is
wrong by the way, this isn't a SB but ESS and doesn't work with the
driver loaded by the kernel that comes with RedHat 5.1.

I'm including the log of two logon the internet, one that failed
with kernel 2.1.113 and one that worked with kernel 2.0.34-0.6
