Investigating kernel problems

Hi

I've seen all these emails go by about DMA problems and disk problems and I
was wondering if there was anything that people could do to help investigate
these reports. Are there programs out there that _really_ stress systems to a
state that they are likely to break? Are there any options in the kernel that
are considered scary, that could again be stress tested.

I would be quite happy to try and break the kernel (or prove my hardware is
dodgy) if the end result is a much more stable kernel for everyone.
