Keyboard problem with Compaq Deskpro 350 MHz machines (2.0.3[34])

A couple of friends of mine recently bought 350 MHz Compaq Deskpros,
and I helped them to install Debian GNU/Linux 2.0 on them. Everything
seemed to work fine (besides, initially, a few partitioning problems),
except for the keyboard:

Every few Linux boots, the keyboard will not respond at all, including
Ctrl+Alt+Del. Even though the keyboard is not responding, the machine
still fully boots and goes to the login prompt. At this point, I turn
the machine off (they have no reset button) then back on, and it boots
Linux successfully.

The machines are identical other than RAM and HDD. They do not have
corresponding keyboard problems under Windows 98.

This is under 2.0.33 or 2.0.34, I'm not sure which. If anyone has an
idea why it might be happening, or you'd like further details, please
contact me and I will investigate further.

Thanks,

Ben.
