More on 2.1.111-pre1 problems

Hi, all. I've had a slightly closer look at a problem I reported
earlier with 2.1.111-pre1. When I run reboot, I get the message:
disabling symmetric IO mode... ...done.

Then the machines starts beeping at me, and doesn't actually reboot.
This is on a Tyan 1662D Dual PPro SMP system. It looks like something
after init_pic_mode() in arch/i386/kernel/io_apic.c finishes is
failing.
