One data point for the PPP/2.1.109 problems. I can reliably reproduce
one of the symptoms, ppp devices that do not disappear when pppd is
killed. ppp-2.3.5, "make clean kernel install" against 2.1.109, gcc
2.7.2.3, glibc 2.0.5. ppp is a module, modutils 2.1.85.

Run pppd, kill -2 cleans up, kill -9 leaves interface pppn still in the
system. The use count on module ppp stays at 1.
